August 5, 2021 / CONS
He strongly wanted and won the bronze medal: Mayles Nazem Amine Mularoni's success in the final for the podium came after a very difficult match against 21-year-old Indian Deepak Punia, silver at the 2019 world championships, who at 20 seconds left he was 2-1 ahead. The twenty-four-year-old of a San Marino mother and father of Lebanese origin, born and raised in Michigan, believed in it and turned the tide of the match by winning 4-2 with a prodigious recovery fruit of technique and determination.
His path was of absolute level with the victories over the twenty-three-year-old Colombian Carlos Arturo Izquierdo Mendez in the round of 16 (12-2, match interrupted for obvious superiority) and this morning in the repechage against the 32-year-old Belarusian Ali Shabanau (2-0), with in the middle the defeat with the thirty year old American from Nevada David Morris Taylor III, known as "Magic Man", already world champion in 2018, who won the gold medal by beating the 26 year old Iranian Hassan Yazdanicharati Iri in the final. Bronze medal also for the twenty-four year old Russian Artur Naifonov of Team Roc.
The Captains Regent, Gian Carlo Venturini and Marco Nicolini, and the Secretary of State for Sport, Teodoro Lonfernini, congratulated Myles and the Olympic delegation.
Myles completed a personal two-year period of great level, remembering the bronze medal at the European Olympic Games in Minsk 2019, the silver at the European Championships in Rome 2020, the bronze at the European Championships in Warsaw 2021 and the Olympic podium in Tokyo 2020.
"I dedicate the medal to my family - says the wrestler -, to my staff, to all the people of San Marino who have supported me, starting with Federico Valentini and Eros Bologna with the president Gian Primo Giardi and all the members of the Olympic Committee San Marino national team to whom I am grateful for letting me in treating me as in a real San Marino family. In the final for the bronze I didn't want to be excluded, I narrowly escaped it but the most important thing is the victory and I found the way to win ”.
The San Marino Olympic delegation obtained the third historic medal with Myles Nazem Amine Mularoni after those in the bronze skeet shooting in the individual women's trap with Alessandra Perilli and in the mixed team with Perilli and Gian Marco Berti herself.
