YOLA - YOLI is a food supplement made for the fight and prevention of childhood malnutrition in Zambia.

The use of the supplement is not a novelty in itself but the Yola - Yoli, as the sentence says: Your Earth is Your Life,   is part of an innovative project because its production takes place in the Zambian territory.

It is precisely on the occasion of a trip to Zambia that Charity Without Borders meets some representatives of the Liberato Zambia Association of Ancona, a team of doctors, nutritionists, agronomists, chemists and food technicians: this is how the organizational and economic collaboration between the two Associations was born. who undertake to support, manage and monitor an integrated project divided into two areas of activity, respectively called GRAND (Growth and Nutritional Development) for the screening and treatment of detected cases and YOLA - YOLI for the production and distribution of the food supplement to children under the age of 5. The age was chosen on the basis of international guidelines, as it is the most exposed to the risk of malnutrition: after breastfeeding, children may not receive adequate nutrition due to poverty  associated with superstitions o cultural deficiencies of families.

For Charity Without Borders, a journey of cooperation with local realities begins to lay the foundations for autonomous development.

The supplement is a mix of peanut flour, sugar, milk powder, sunflower oil, vitamins and minerals.

With the exception of the vitamins and mineral salts that are purchased in Italy, the other components of the supplement are purchased on site while the peanuts are grown, harvested and processed by the women of the villages on land made available to them.

The supplement is produced in rooms specially prepared with machinery from Italy. Production personnel are hired locally and trained by experts from the Liberato Zambia Association. The technical administrative manager is also found on site and adequately prepared. Controls on production and procurement take place both locally and remotely (Ancona) via the Internet through the computerization of the entire process.

A fundamental feature of the supplement is the absence of water which avoids the problems of infection caused precisely by the poor quality of the water and therefore the product can be taken directly by the child from a disposable plastic container.

The administration takes place under the supervision of the nuns and periodically of the doctors. Two Zambian nurses, accompanied by the driver of the off-road vehicle (the only people who receive a fee), following a monthly calendar, visit the various centers to monitor the children treated, establish the dosages, leave the necessary amount of supplement, which mothers withdraw daily , or decide to discontinue when the children are within the medical parameters appropriate to their age.

This project combines the need to save children from the effects of malnutrition with the opportunity to make the poorest population independent, also ensuring an income for the staff involved in the production of the supplement which is paid by the two associations.

The prospect for the future is to increase production, currently by 4 quintals per month, in order to meet the demand which is growing sharply.

It is therefore necessary to raise funds to increase the production of YOLA - YOLI, both through the purchase of the most sophisticated materials found in Europe, and through the purchase of the necessary products available in Zambia.
